Introduction

This page will be dedicated to my journey through religion. I will be studying the bible and trying to interpret it myself without anyone telling me how I should feel. I am trying to discover God, because I truly believe there's a loving God out there. I do not wish to associate with a Christian denomination, because I believe each person should formulate their own ideas of what God, Jesus, and the Bible means to them, and having pastors and priests telling you how to think and feel fails this priniciple. I will also consider our current scientific understanding when reading scripture, because an omnipotent god should still do things within the confines of reason and logic (though logic might not apply to an all powerful god).

I was never that religious. Even in my childhood, God didn't make sense to me. Asking questions about him only yielded vague answers, so I could not understand who God or Jesus really is. I went through First Communion under the pressure of my parents, who I'm not sure even understood the reason for it. Religion seemed like memorising prayers, because that's all I really did during First Communion. I guess my issue is misunderstanding Christianity. Christianity has always seemed like a backwards, regressive, and anti-science movement, because I kept (and still do) seeing Christians online deny scientific fact like evolution. It didn't help that I'm bisexual, and a lot of Christians really seem to hate people like me, which pretty much isolated me from anything Christianity-related. But I'm hoping to rediscover Christianity, formulate my own opinion about things.

Gospel of John

[2025-03-13]
After a bit of research, I decided to begin the bible with the Gospel of John. Now that I have finished it, I'd like to share my thoughts on it. It accounts the life of Jesus and the miracles (or signs) which he performed, which, I assume, the other Gospels do as well. I noticed this gospel puts a lot of emphasis that Jesus is God, and that God is him, though I'm not sure if this is consistent with the rest of the Bible or not, as I've not read anything else. I noticed that Jesus knew about his exact death beforehand and about the betrayal of Judas, which, if true, I think would prove his divine origin. Also, despite being a Jew himself, I noticed that he goes against Jewish law as set by Moses, and I found the story of the Adulterous Woman in John 8 quite interesting, because not only does it show Christ's (God's) forgiveness, but it reveals the hypocrisy of the Pharisees.

All in all, I enjoyed reading it, and it gave me a general idea of who Jesus is, what he is like. I think I'll be reading the Gospel of Matthew next.
